FAQs
Discover key insights and practical tips for your Antarctic air and expedition voyage in our comprehensive FAQ section.
The best time to visit Antarctica is during the austral summer, from November to March, when temperatures are milder and wildlife is most active. During this period, penguins are nesting and raising chicks, seals give birth and calves explore the beaches, and whales can often be seen feeding in coastal waters. Daylight lasts longer, providing ideal conditions for photography, Zodiac excursions, and immersive wildlife observation. Travelling in these months ensures the most rewarding and accessible Antarctic experience.
Austral summer weather in Antarctica means mostly mild temperatures, averaging around 0°C, although sometimes it may feel lower because of the wind chill factor. You can expect cold, sunny days and brisk winds, which may turn into stormy weather and even a few snow flurries or snow. You should be prepared for quick changes in weather conditions. Below we are offering more packing tips for your expedition.
It is best to wear several layers of light, warm clothing. The suggested clothing for Antarctica is very similar to recommended gear for skiing: thermal underwear, a couple of warm and wicking mid-layers, a windproof and waterproof jacket, plus pants as the outer layer. You will also need a hat, a scarf, waterproof and insulated gloves, and sunglasses with high UV protection. We also suggest packing comfortable clothes to wear on board, as well as rubber-soled shoes for walking around on the outside decks.
