Day 1

Journey begins

Fly from the UK to Lima, Peru, the “City of Kings,” gateway to a land where ancient civilisations and vibrant modern culture converge. From the moment you arrive, Peru’s rich heritage and colourful streets hint at the adventures to come.

Day 2

Lima, Peru

Upon arrival at Lima International Airport, you will be greeted by your private driver and transferred to your hotel. Take time to settle in and soak up the city’s unique atmosphere, a captivating mix of colonial architecture, bustling markets, and the Pacific coast’s refreshing breeze.

Day 3

Lima, Peru

Explore Lima’s layers of history and culture on a full-day guided tour. Wander the bohemian streets of Barranco, with its colourful murals and artisan shops, before visiting the Larco Museum to marvel at pre-Columbian art in a centuries-old Hacienda. Stroll through Lima’s historic centre, passing Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral, and the Government Palace, before enjoying a delightful lunch at Café del Museo. Afternoon sights include the tranquil parks of Miraflores and El Olivar, where centuries-old olive trees whisper tales of colonial Peru.

Day 4

Sacred Valley, Peru

In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to Lima Airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, a private transfer will take you through the breathtaking Andes to the Sacred Valley, home to fertile lands and ancient traditions. Begin your exploration with a visit to a local textile centre, where master weaver Walter Sulca unveils the secrets of Andean weaving. Continue to the Pisac Market, where vibrant textiles and crafts invite you to experience the colours and culture of this remarkable valley. Lunch is enjoyed at Hacienda Sarapampa, surrounded by golden cornfields and the mountains’ embrace.

Day 5

Sacred Valley, Peru

The Sacred Valley’s wonders continue today. Wander the quaint streets of Chinchero, where a colonial church houses remarkable Cusqueñan paintings, and local artisans keep centuries-old weaving traditions alive. Visit the dazzling Maras Saltworks, a series of terraced pools reflecting the sun like tiny mirrors, before venturing to the circular terraces of Moray. These enigmatic formations, once used by the Incas to experiment with crops across different microclimates, reveal their ingenuity and harmony with nature. Every step in this valley offers insight into a civilisation that blended practicality, artistry, and spirituality in the landscape.

Day 6

Ollantaytambo, Peru

Journey to the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, a “Live Inca Town” where cobbled streets and terraced hillsides speak of resistance and resilience. Explore the fortress, once a strategic stronghold for Manco Inca against the Spanish conquest, and marvel at its sophisticated construction for military, agricultural, and religious purposes. Later, board the scenic Vistadome train to Machu Picchu, enjoying panoramic views of the Andean highlands. Upon arrival, a private transfer will take you to your hotel, the perfect base to rest before tomorrow’s exploration of the Lost City of the Incas.

Day 7

Machu Picchu, Peru

Rise early for a breathtaking ascent to Machu Picchu by shuttle from Aguas Calientes. Guided by an expert, explore the iconic citadel, where massive stone terraces and temples blend seamlessly with the surrounding cliffs. Learn the history and mysteries of this ancient urban marvel, from its strategic construction to its spiritual significance. Enjoy a set-menu lunch at Sumaq Hotel, then return by train to Ollantaytambo and continue by private transfer to your hotel in Cusco. Day 8

Cusco, Peru

Embark on an alternative trek to the Three Rainbow Mountains near Palccoyo. Travel by vehicle to high-altitude starting points and hike through spectacular Andean landscapes, with panoramic views of glaciers, valleys, and colourful mineral-rich mountains. Pause to admire the rainbow-hued peaks and capture the extraordinary scenery before enjoying a box lunch. On the return journey, visit the pre-Incan Checacupe suspension bridge, still in use today, and marvel at the enduring ingenuity of the region’s ancestors.

Day 9

Cusco, Peru

Begin your day with a guided walking tour of Cusco, exploring the city’s rich Incan heritage. Visit Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, and the Santo Domingo Church built atop the Koricancha Temple. Stroll through the vibrant San Pedro Market before transferring to Cusco Airport for your flight to Cartagena. Upon arrival at Cartagena, a private transfer will take you to your hotel, where you can relax and enjoy the coastal charm of this historic Caribbean city. 

Day 10

Cartagena, Colombia

Discover Cartagena’s vibrant culture and history on a guided city tour. Explore the colourful streets of Getsemaní, tasting local flavours and absorbing the rhythms of the Caribbean. Visit the Popa Convent for panoramic views, then tour the formidable San Felipe de Barajas Castle. End the day with a visit to the Church of San Pedro Claver and, optionally, browse the historic handicrafts at Las Bóvedas.  

Day 11

Santa Marta, Colombia

Depart in the morning for a scenic journey to Santa Marta, with a stop in Barranquilla to explore the vibrant Carnival Museum and the Gran Malecón del Río, taking in the sights and stories of this lively city. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Varadero Restaurant before continuing along the coast to Santa Marta, where you can unwind in the afternoon and take in the charm of Colombia’s oldest surviving city, steeped in colonial history and surrounded by stunning natural landscapes.  

Day 12

Santa Marta, Colombia

Early this morning, venture into Tayrona National Natural Park, where tropical forests meet pristine beaches. Walk along scenic trails, spotting native birds and absorbing the rich biodiversity. Afterwards, visit the Katanzama indigenous community to learn about their customs, traditional crops, and way of life, followed by a tour of the ancient Tayronaka terraces. End the adventure with a riverside lunch at Don Diego River, where you can descend the river by kayak, paddle, or tubing until reaching the sea, combining exhilaration with the serene beauty of Colombia’s Caribbean coast. 

Day 13

Depart Santa Marta

Your Peruvian and Colombian adventure draws to a close as our guide meets you in the hotel lobby for a private transfer to Simón Bolívar Airport. Check in with ease and prepare for your return flight. With memories of Andean peaks, tropical jungles, and colourful streets, you carry home an unforgettable journey filled with culture, history, and adventure.
