Temples & Hills

From Mughal temples to Himalayan hill towns, explore the sacred, the historic, and the sublime across northern India

This journey traces a thoughtful path through northern India, connecting places of profound significance with landscapes of extraordinary beauty. You begin in Delhi, where Mughal monuments and colonial boulevards exist in vivid contrast, before flying north to Amritsar, home of the Golden Temple, one of the most spiritually powerful sites in the world. From there, the road climbs into the foothills of the Himalayas to Dharamshala, a place shaped by Tibetan culture, mountain air, and a quietness that feels entirely its own.

The journey continues upward to Shimla, the former summer capital of the British Raj, where Victorian architecture clings to the hillside and the views across the Himalayan ranges are breathtaking. The return to Delhi is made by train, a fitting and atmospheric close to a journey that has moved between worlds. Accommodation throughout is chosen for its character and quality, from the understated elegance of The Oberoi to the mountain serenity of the Hyatt Regency Dharamshala. This is northern India seen at its most considered and most rewarding.
