Day 1

Journey begins

Depart the UK on an international flight to Lima, Peru. Settle in for the overnight journey as you travel across the Atlantic towards South America, marking the beginning of your Andean rail adventure.

Day 2

Lima, Peru

Arrive in Lima, Peru’s vibrant coastal capital, where colonial heritage, contemporary neighbourhoods and the Pacific Ocean meet. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred privately to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure, giving you time to rest after your journey or begin discovering the city at your own pace, perhaps enjoying ocean views, a café in Miraflores, or your first taste of Peru’s celebrated cuisine

Day 3

Lima, Peru

Step back into pre-Columbian history at Huaca Pucllana, a ceremonial adobe pyramid encircled by the modern city. Explore the labyrinthine tunnels of San Francisco Monastery, where shadows and flickering candles evoke centuries of devotion. The Larco Museum reveals Peru’s ancient artistry, from intricate textiles to enigmatic erotic ceramics, while its gardens hum with tranquillity. Stroll the Plaza de Armas, where colonial facades glint in the sun and the streets echo with footsteps of centuries past. Day 4

Arequipa, Peru

Fly to Arequipa, the “White City”, set in a fertile valley beneath snow-capped volcanoes. Wander cobbled streets lined with white volcanic stone mansions and baroque churches, where colonial grandeur meets Andean charm. From the Yanahuara viewpoint, gaze at terraced hillsides and the towering Misti volcano, tasting a sweet Queso Helado ice cream along the way. Explore La Compañía de Jesús church with its ornate cloisters, and step into Santa Catalina Monastery, a “city within a city” where nuns once lived in complete seclusion. Finish with the Andean Sanctuaries Museum to meet the icy gaze of mummy Juanita, a haunting window into Incan life.

Day 5

Colca Canyon, Peru

Drive through Aguada Blanca National Park, spotting herds of vicuñas and alpacas grazing against a backdrop of rugged mountains. Day 6

Colca Canyon, Peru

After an early breakfast, make your way to the “Cruz del Condor” viewpoint and appreciate the depths of the canyon. Try to spot the immense Andean Condors as they fly and hunt for food. Afterwards, stop in the small towns of Maca and Yanque, renowned for their small colonial churches and stunning landscapes. Continue your drive back to White City and arrive in the late afternoon.

Day 7

Belmond Train Peru

Board the Belmond Andean Explorer in Arequipa, settling into your cabin as the train winds into the Andes. Pass towering volcanoes, rolling plains, and remote villages framed by crisp mountain air. Meet Sabino, an Andean musician, and craft your own zampoña (pan flute) to take home a melody of Cusco. Spend your final hours in Lima, savouring the city’s coastal breeze, colourful streets, and bustling markets. Your Peruvian adventure concludes as you are transferred from your hotel to Lima Airport for your onward flight. Take a final moment to soak in the city’s coastal charm and vibrant energy before departing, carrying memories of mountains, ancient cities, and cultural treasures.
