G-Expedition

About G-Expedition

G Expedition is a purpose-built Ice Class 1B ship which operates primarily in Antarctica and the Arctic. She offers an intimate small-ship environment for just 134 guests and boasts a comfortable interior with all of the facilities required for an unforgettable time in the world’s most remote regions.

Having undergone a complete refurbishment in 2009 which saw huge improvements made to the accommodation and public areas, G Expedition has also been fitted with a new engine which allows her to navigate polar waters much faster, thus allowing for more exploration.

Exploration and discovery are at the heart of every G Expedition itinerary. As such, the ship is equipped with a fleet of Zodiacs and aims to make at least two landings per day, promising that every day is never the same. The highly-trained Expedition Team are on-hand throughout every trip off the ship in order to navigate safe passages, point out landmarks and give background on the history, wildlife and geology of the places you will visit.

Keen photographers – or even those with just a passing interest – will be delighted to know that every G Expedition voyage is accompanied by a professional photographer who runs a photography workshop with a view to helping guests capture the best possible images during their time away.

G Expedition offers five categories of accommodation. Even the smallest grades still manage to be relatively spacious and the additional fold-down bed makes them an ideal choice for those travelling in a party of three guests. All of the cabins (categories 1-4) and the suites (category 5) offer ensuite bathroom facilities, a writing desk and ocean views from either a porthole or a larger ceiling-to-floor window.

Dining on G Expedition takes place in the ship’s main dining room which serves fine cuisine in one sitting for all guests. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style, while dinner in the evening is table service. Alternative meal options are available for vegetarians or those with special dietary requirements.

When conditions permit, you may also have the opportunity to enjoy a meal out on the 360 degree Observation Deck. This is a truly special experience, allowing you to dine while basking in the splendour of the incredible surroundings. Depending on where you are exploring, you might even be lucky enough to see a breaching whale, a waddle of penguins or a curious Polar Bear nearby.

When you are not exploring ashore, G Expedition offers a number of spaces in which to relax. The key venue is the Discovery Lounge which is where the expedition’s daily briefings, lectures and educational seminars take place. Tea and coffee is complimentary in the Discovery Lounge and it’s free to use at any time of the day should you wish. During the evenings, guests are invited to the Polar Bear Pub, where you can enjoy the drink of your choice while listening to the soothing sounds of the ship’s resident musicians.

G Expedition boasts a dedicated Lonely Planet library where you can borrow books to read up about the region you are exploring or get some ideas for your next adventure.

The ship also offers WiFi access in certain areas of the ship, a gym, a sauna and a mud room where you can leave your belongings without having to carry them back to your cabin or suite following a landing.
