Itinerary Summary

Journey south to mesmerising Antarctica on this 16-day expedition aboard the luxurious Scenic Eclipse.

Your experience in South America begins when you arrive in Buenos Aires, where you will be transferred to a luxury hotel for a one-night stay. Following breakfast the following morning, you will transfer to the airport to catch an internal flight to Ushuaia where you will embark. Once you have settled into your suite accommodation, you are free to attend a welcome reception while the captain sets a course bound for Antarctica.

The next two days will spend crossing the fabled Drake Passage. As one of the newest – and fastest – expedition ships in the world, Scenic Eclipse is the perfect vessel for this crossing and the outstanding onboard facilities will provide you with plenty of ways to spend these lazy days at sea.

As the sun rises on the fifth day, you will enter the Antarctic Peninsula. This incredible part of the world has long captivated the world’s explorers and you will be lucky enough to have six full day’s of exploration ahead of you. While there is no set itinerary for this period, Scenic Eclipse’s Expedition Team will plan each days activities depending on the weather patterns and conditions. However, the team generally hope to facilitate two excursions each day, whether these are by Zodiac, on-foot or by the ship’s submarine and helicopters.

On the 12th day of your expedition you will bid farewell to Antarctica as Scenic Eclipse begins her journey north back through Drake Passage, where you will have two days to reflect on your experience. Upon arrival in Ushuaia, you will be flown to Buenos Aires for another one-night hotel stay before flying back the UK the following morning.

About Your Ship

Scenic Eclipse is a new expedition vessel and is claimed to be ‘The World’s First Discovery Yacht’. Boasting capacity for 228 guests, Scenic Eclipse offers itineraries in remote regions such as Antarctica and the Arctic as well as more traditional cruise destinations like the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

Scenic Eclipse has been purpose-built for adventure and is equipped with a range of impressive expedition facilities. Like many ships of this nature, she has a fleet of Zodiacs and kayaks which, weather permitting, are used throughout each voyage for excursions and shore landings.  Located on her heliport, Scenic Eclipse has two six-seat helicopters. These give guests the opportunity to travel further inland to enjoy sights and wildlife normally only seen by intrepid explorers.

Most impressively, Scenic Eclipse even has her own submarine – there’s simply no better way to see polar bears or penguins than enjoying a front row, underwater seat.

The accommodation aboard Scenic Eclipse is divided between four styles of suite; Veranda Suites, Spa Suites, Panorama Suites and Owner’s Penthouse Suites. In contrast to many expedition ships, Scenic Eclipse’s accommodation really does exude luxury. With no expense spared when it comes to the decor, furnishings or facilities, you can expect spacious living quarters, king-sized slumber beds and beautiful en-suite bathrooms.

Another touch of luxury is the 500 square feet Sanctuary Spa. Featuring a jacuzzi, and a heated pool with a retractable roof, the spa is more in-keeping with something you might find in one of the world’s most sophisticated boutique hotels. Similarly, there are six separate dining venues on Scenic Eclipse with enough choice and variation to suite all palettes. Particularly recommended is Koko’s – an Asian-fusion restaurant and Elements, the ship’s main dining venue which serves up delicious steak and seafood with an Italian twist. You also have the option to dine outside alfresco-style, or in your suite, courtesy of 24-hour room service.

In order to protect the environment and further preserve the natural beauty of the places she visits, Scenic Eclipse is equipped with a state-of-the-art dynamic position system which allows her to be held in place without the use of a traditional anchor. She also has an onboard water treatment plant and efficient low impact engines.
