Silver Explorer

About Silver Explorer

Silver Explorer is a luxury expedition ship that is renowned for cruising the icy waters of the polar regions as well as offering itineraries in other destinations including Africa and Northern Europe. She has been in operation under various names since 1989 and was most recently known as Prince Albert II.

Silver Explorer is a 1A ice-rated vessel, which means she is perfectly equipped for navigating some of the world’s harshest nautical landscapes. Perhaps most famous for her Antarctica programme, which runs between late November and early February, Silver Explorer is the perfect ship for an up-scale expedition cruise experience and is claimed to be “The World’s Most Luxurious Expedition Ship”.

The ship is equipped with a fleet of 8 Zodiac boats and these are used to make dry/wet landings as well as make trips to smaller inlets that the ship cannot enter. The Zodiacs are used multiple times throughout the day and it is the crew’s intention that every guest should experience approximately two outings per day. Every trip on the Zodiacs and any time spent on land are done so accompanied by a highly trained Expedition Team.

Silver Explorer’s itineraries are accentuated by a programme of lectures, seminars and briefings which take place in The Theatre. Capable of hosting all 132 of the ship’s guests, it is here you will learn about the region you are exploring, with special focus being given to the area’s wildlife, history and geology.

The accommodation options onboard Silver Explorer are perhaps among the most luxurious you might encounter on an expedition ship. The accommodation grades range from spacious Adventurer Suites to the grand Owner’s Suite. All of the suites on Silver Explorer boast ocean-views, queen size beds, a separate sitting area and a bathroom with a whirlpool tub/shower.

Dining primarily takes place in the ship’s main restaurant and here you can enjoy a variety of regionally-influenced dishes prepared by using fresh local ingredients.  For a more informal option – and when the conditions permit – The Grill serves up light bites, tapas and cocktails and provides a stylish outdoor setting with glorious views of the passing landscapes.

Unlike smaller expedition vessels, there are no set meal times or assigned seating arrangements on Silver Explorer. This means that you can dine with whomever you wish – at a time that suits you.

The Panorama Lounge is the ship’s main hub during the evenings and provides the perfect environment for which to enjoy a nightcap with new friends. Accompanied by the relaxing sounds of the ship’s resident pianist, the Lounge boasts stunning ocean views and a calming, informal atmosphere.

Silver Explorer also features an internet cafe, a library, a shopping boutique, a fitness suite and a beauty salon.
