MS Kong Harald

About MS Kong Harald

Named after Norway’s reigning Monarch, Kong Harald is an expedition ship with capacity for 622 guests. Primarily operating along the rugged Norwegian coastline, Kong Harald was refurbished in 2016 and offers a collection of experiences that take in the Northern Lights and the Arctic Circle.

As you might expect for a ship purpose-built for polar exploration, MS Kong Harald is equipped with all the necessary apparatus including Zodiacs, kayaks and walking gear. The ship also has it’s own onboard Expedition Team who lead each excursion and also host a daily onboard lecture programme, with the topics tied neatly into the region you are exploring.

The accommodation aboard MS Kong Harald is spacious, comfortable and provides the perfect base for relaxation after a long day of exploring. The ship’s entry level accommodation categories are classified as ‘Polar Cabins’ and are available both with and without windows. They include all the basic essentials you will need throughout your expedition, including an en-suite bathroom with a shower, a flat-screen TV and a sofa which converts into a bed should 3 of you be travelling.

‘Arctic Superiors’ are the ship’s mid-level accommodation category. Larger than the Polar Cabins, the Arctic Superiors all have picture windows as well as additional tea and coffee making facilities and double beds while the largest of the accommodation grades, the Expedition Suites, boast a separate seating area and come with complimentary bathroom amenities, cabin kits and slippers.

Where dining is concerned, MS Kong Harald has three restaurants. The main dining room is Torget, where breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style and dinner is a three course meal served at your table. The other venues, Brygga and Kysten are more bistro-style, and serve seasonal dishes freshly created using locally sourced fresh fish and meats.

When not exploring ashore or by Zodiac, guests are free to relax and enjoy the ship’s facilities and public areas. As is common on the majority of expedition ships, MS Kong Harald does not offer much in the way of late-night entertainment. However, such is the focus on destination-led discovery and shared experiences, the bars can often be lively and post-dinner drinks give guests the opportunity to come together and discuss their adventures in a relaxed setting.

Other facilities on Kong Harald include a sauna, fitness room, conference room and a jacuzzi. WiFi is also available through the ship for an additional charge.
