Itinerary Summary

Follow in the footsteps of the great explorers on this 17-night Canadian Arctic expedition cruise aboard MS HANSEATIC Inspiration,

Your Arctic expedition begins with charter flights from Dusseldorf, Germany, to Kangerlussuaq on the south-western coast of Greenland. Upon arrival, you will transfer to the port and board the beautiful MS HANSEATIC Inspiration.

After leaving Kangerlussuaq, your adventure will begin. In Uummannaq, Greenland, you will see rows of colourful houses set against an incredible heart-shaped mountain backdrop. You will then cross Baffin Bay and arrive in Pond Inlet, where you will have the opportunity to learn more about Inuit culture and history.

Heading further north, you will visit the world’s largest uninhabited island, Devon Island, and take a trip to Ellesmere Island, which is home to an abandoned outpost once staffed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Depending on the conditions, which can vary by the hour, you may then moor in Pim Island, home to polar bears and Arctic foxes, before charting a course through the ice-packed waters of the Nares Strait, bound for Cape Constitution. The Cape is noted for being the place where the famous explorer Elisha Kane raised the American flag in 1854, marking his achievement of penetrating further north than anyone had done until that time.

MS HANSEATIC Inspiration will then begin her journey south, visiting the Qaanaaq settlement in Old Thule which explorers such as Robert Peary had previously used as a base before setting off in search of the North Pole.

Before sailing back to Kangerlussuaq, you will visit the imposing ice fjord in Ilulissat and the famous Disko Bay, which is renowned as one of the most mesmerising sites in Greenland.

About Your Ship

Hanseatic Inspiration is a five-star expedition ship designed for adventure cruising in the polar regions, Central America and the Caribbean. She offers capacity for 230 guests, though this is reduced to no more than 199 guests for itineraries in Antarctica and Spitsbergen.

Equipped with everything you will need to make the most of your time away, Hanseatic Inspiration is the perfect choice of ship if you really want to immerse yourself in some of the world’s most remote regions. Her fleet of Zodiacs are used frequently throughout each expedition in order to reach inaccessible shorelines or to carry guests close to wildlife sightings or significant natural landmarks.

Hanseatic Inspiration also has her own Marina, located at the rear of the ship. When deployed during warm weather expeditions, it provides guests with easy access to the ship’s water-sports facilities such as kayaks, paddle boards and snorkelling equipment.

All expeditions aboard Hanseatic Inspiration are accompanied by a team of experts from the fields of nature, geography and history. Throughout each itinerary, the team will lead guests on excursions and aim to share their knowledge whenever possible.

The accommodation on Hanseatic Inspiration is comprised of 120 cabins and suites. The cabins are split between four categories, two of which have large windows and two that have private balconies. All of the cabins boast an en-suite bathroom with a ‘rain shower’, a mini-bar, separable beds and a heated wall which can be used for drying wet weather gear and towels. The suites, of which there are two categories, are larger in size and have private verandas. They also benefit from a separate living/seating area, a separate dining area, an entertainment station and an en-suite bathroom with two sinks and a steam sauna in the shower area.

The culinary options on Hanseatic Inspiration consist of three main restaurants. The ship’s main restaurant is available for breakfast, lunch and dinner with menus designed to reflect the region which you are exploring. The ship’s second restaurant is a speciality venue and offers a range of sumptuous treats; from first-class Japanese cuisine to North American feasts. Finally, the Bistro is more informal option and gives you the opportunity to enjoy a variety of meals either inside or under the open sky.

In terms of facilities, much of the experience on board Hanseatic Inspiration is geared towards destination discovery. To accommodate this, the ship has two venues. The first is the HanseAtrium. Here, you can enjoy lectures, daily briefings and presentations delivered by the ship’s Expedition Team. The second venue is the Ocean Academy, which is an interactive science facility boasting a large media wall and many touchscreen devices.

Hanseatic Inspiration offers a number of public areas in which you can relax. The ship’s spa is open throughout the day and provides a space in which to enjoy everything from full-body massages; to cosmetic treatments and salon facilities. There is also a pool area with a retractable roof and a fitness area for those who wish to keep active during their time away.
During the evening and particularly after dinner, the bars on Hanseatic Inspiration offer the perfect environment to unwind with your favourite tipple while enjoying the company of your fellow guests.
